Serial Interface Setup

Hardware installation of the PC interface card for PowerVCA

Before installation you must know that the PowerVCA software only works fine in MS-DOS. Prevent problems by not running PowerVCA in combination with Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups (3.11), Windows 95/98 or Windows NT.

NOTE: Be sure not to run one of these programs at the same time!

Your PC must have one free ISA slot to accept the Music Quest card.

A minimum configuration could look like: Pentium2, 233mHz, 32mB internal memory, free ISA slot, one free IRQ (2/9 or3 or 5 or 7) and a VGA display adaptor. There need to be no on-board Soundcard!

Before the circuit board may be used, you must set its address and IRQ.

These settings are set with dip switch S1 on the circuit board.

Setting Addresses on the card
The Address on the interface circuit board is changed by the first four switches marked 1-4 on S1.
The PowerVCA software requires address 330 (default setting).

Setting IRQ on the PC-card:
The IRQ on the printed circuit board is changed by the last four switches marked 5-8 on S1. There is a free IRQ required by the software. The default setting for the interface IRQ is 2/9. It's possible that this IRQ is used by the video card. So Select another IRQ, number 5 that is often free. IRQ 7 and 3 are respectively used by the printer and serial port.

Factory default setting is:

1=off (down)

2=off (down)

3=on (up)

4=off (down)

5=on (up)

6=off (down)

7=off (down)
