SYSTEM OVERVIEW

The AirMax is a digitally controlled analogue desktop mixer using the latest, state of the art, digital and analogue technology housed in
an ‘easy to use’ and ‘versatile’ 19” rack drop through mountable chassis. A simple direct access control surface combined with intelligent,
instantly reset able digital functions, enables customizing to station or personal requirements.
Purchasing choices are straightforward: there is one welded steel 19” frame that can hold a maximum of 12 modules. A maximum of 46 input channels and 1 double sized master module can load 4 frames as a maximum. However this can be any combination of the available input modules, plus one master section. Frames are connected with each other by two Sub-D connector cables located on the side of the frames.
We have incorporated a new way of interfacing with studio equipment by use of high quality low cost readily available STP cable, also called shielded RJ45 Ethernet cable.
Another essential difference with other current available analogue products is the AirMax’s capability to control a huge number of functions via software and subsequently have the advantage to recall these functions instantly.
Each individual 19” rack can be mounted drop through in a work surface left or right of your script space. With an optional PC (via USB) you can configure all internal settings and even visually monitor output levels on a meter application, in parallel with the internal meters. A redundant power supply per frame is optional.

HYBRID MODULE The AirMax HYBRID module has an on board telephone hybrid circuit.
MIX MINUS
Mix-Minus circuitry allows for an unlimited number of Hybrids Alignment is only necessary during installation.
The AirMax Hybrid module is a straight forward design making communication very easy.
The first (internal) control is front panel accessible, with a trimmer for side tone (R-C balance) adjustment.
SEND
The Send knob controls the outgoing signal to the caller.
This signal is derived from the PROGRAM, SUB, AUX-1, COMM or LINE in depending upon the routing of the module.
The SUB and stereo Aux-1. can be selected pre or post Fader/Mute by software selection.
The line input can be switched to a balanced input connector to accept an external hybrid instead of its own internal hybrid.
There is a HIGH CUT and LOW CUT filter to improve intelligibility of the incoming signal.
The stereo Aux. Sends are followed by a Pan control, a Cue/select switch and the Channel On switch.
COMM
There is also the COMM switch to allow communication on the bus between any signal that has access to it.
It is also possible to activate Cue, ON and COMM via the channel remote connector.
The four VCA LEDS indicate whether this module is controlled by the master VCA fader, and a peak LED is inluidend.
FADER
The Module has a 100mm linear K-ALPS fader controlling a high quality VCA.
GROUP MODULE

VCA MASTER

The AirMax group module can be inserted in the frame when subgrouping is needed. The Group module provides you with control over a
maximum of 4 stereo audio groups and over a maximum of 4 VCA groups. The upper section controls the audio groups.
The GROUP LEDS in the input modules indicate to which group that specific module is assigned to.
There is a stereo 10 segment LED BAR that indicates the outgoing group level.
INSERT
An INSERT is available to insert external signal processors in the group signal.
EXTERN INPUT
The EXT(ernal) switch brings an external stereo signal pre fader not interrupting the group output signal of course.
The 10 segment meter follows this switch. An ideal tape monitor configuration.
MONO
The mono switch converts the signal into a mono, a L+R signal, a LL signal, a RR signal or stereo L/R.
AUX
There are two stereo AUX sends pre/post switchable.
PAN POT
A PAN-POT balances the signal assigned to the Program and/or SUB bus.
The Group signal can be assigned to the PROGRAM SUB and COMM. bus if needed.
GROUP SETUP
This is done by activating this switch and then selecting the CUE/SELECT buttons in the modules you want to be part of this group.
VCA FDR SETUP
This is done by activating this switch and then selecting the CUE/SELECT buttons in the modules you want to be controlled by master
VCA fader in this module.
REMOTE VCA IN
When this switch is activated, it lets you control the VCA fader with an external fader.
The CUE switch activates all channel cues of the assigned input modules.
The VCA LED indicates the control voltage sent to the input VCA’s.
A 100mm linear fader completes the group module.

MASTER The master module of the AirMax is divided in two sections. The first section houses the Left/Right Program meters including fine
adjustment trimmers to adjust the metering to personal needs.
There is of course a meter output for larger external meters. It is even possible to use a PC for monitoring the output in various meter standards.
There is a Program INSERT switch to insert master limiters or other processors needed.
The stereo SUB master control with its Talkback switch controls the overall output of the SUB signal.
The stereo Aux. masters 1 and 2 control the out- going Aux. Buss signals.
An internal Talk Back function is available.
The lower segment of the first section houses the SOLO IN PLACE switch that changes the solo mode of the CUE system from PFL to a Solo in Place mode.
The Comm. switch connects the comm. buss to an external level controllable CUE speaker.
The next control in this section is the CUE SPEAKER level control.
There is a Comm. RESET to instantly disable any activated comm. switch anywhere in the console.
The CUE RESET function makes a quick CUE reset just a touch of a button.
A 100mm linear master fader controls a stereo VCA that completes the first master section. In case you do not want a master fader in
your console, the master fader can be disabled in the software.
CRM/STUDIO

The second section of the master/CRM section and the Studio module are identical in functions. It houses from top to bottom the
Control Room Ledbars showing any signal heard through the control room monitors. You also have here some precision trimmers
to adjust the ledbar indicators from the front.
Internal electret Talk-back Mics are built into the master section and in the Studio module.
Then there is the Monitor source section that can be fed by nine stereo input signals such as shown in the module. It ranges from the
PROGRAM signal down to the CUE signal and all in stereo of course. All switches have LED indicators and can be programmed
to act summing or interlocking depending upon software settings.
All incoming signals can be switched to mono. There are two PHONES sections that follow the input selectors, or the adjacent PROGRAM switch.
The COMM LED indicates that you are listening to the COMM signal.

The CRM/STUDIO potentiometer controls the Control room monitor and/or STUDIO speakers and is fed by the program signal or from
one of the input selector switches in the upper section of the master module.
There is a COMM and MUTE LED that indicates when you are listening to the communication signal or that the CRM output is muted
when the console is in SELF OP mode.

TALKBACK
The last four controls are the dedicated TALK BACK switches to various outputs of the console and the 20dB dim switch for the CRM.

The huge amount of in- and outputs per module could not be designed in the old fashioned way, with a dedicated connector in the space available on the back of the frame. Our engineers came up with a brilliant new cost reducing way of cabling, an often ignored part of the complete installation. It reduces the costs of wiring considerably by bringing the connectors to the source.
By using standard RJ45 Ethernet type of connectors in every input and output module a compact and neat cabling can be achieved.
These low cost cables are ready made available from us or from your nearest computer store starting at lengths of 30cm up to 20 meters.

HOW DOES
THIS WORK

If you need to connect a MICROPHONE to the AirMax
take our 19” input panel PP-1.
Mount it in your studio rack, hook up a shielded RJ45 cable between the AirMax and this Mic input panel and you are all set.
This also includes the remote wiring! No need to buy twice the amount of expensive XLR’s. Nice trick is n’t it?
We have five types of patch panels available to choose from.

MORE BACKPANEL CONNECTIONS Apart from the twelve times four RJ45 connectors on the back of the AirMax frame that varies with the selected modules there are also the fixed in/outputs of the AirMax such as Program outputs and so on. On the above drawing you can see what in/outputs are available.
Every frame has its own power supply and its own optional redundant power supply that can be connected while in use. There is a section with
4 spare RJ45 connectors for special options when requested.
USB A unique aspect of the AirMax is its capability to control the internal circuitry via the USB buss.
As mentioned before many functions can be controlled over this buss with special dedicated software we supply with the console.
Control is possible over the all settings.
